The IP allowlist adds a network restriction on top of API keys and tenant tokens. It does not replace them: requests from allowed IP addresses still need a valid API key.
When to use an IP allowlist
Use an IP allowlist when only a known, fixed set of machines should talk to your Meilisearch instance. Common examples include:- Your Meilisearch instance sits behind an internal proxy or API gateway
- Only your backend servers query Meilisearch, and they have static outgoing IP addresses
- Your company policy requires restricting access to your corporate network or VPN
How it works
The allowlist is a list of IPv4 addresses and CIDR blocks configured for each project. Single IP addresses are saved as/32 CIDR blocks.
- If the list is empty, there is no restriction. Your instance accepts requests from any IP address.
- If the list contains at least one entry, only requests from IP addresses inside those CIDR blocks are accepted.
403 Forbidden response with the following message:
Meilisearch Cloud’s own IP addresses always remain allowed. This lets the Meilisearch team monitor the health of your instance. You do not need to add them to your allowlist.
Prerequisites
Before you enable the IP allowlist, make sure you have:- A Meilisearch Cloud project
- The list of public IPv4 addresses that need access to your instance (for example, your servers, proxies, or office network)
Pricing
IP allowlist is a paid add-on billed $10/month per project. Each project can have up to 100 CIDR entries. Enterprise customers should contact the Meilisearch team to enable the add-on.Next steps
